The Eastern Maine Soap Box derby board met today at the Family Time Clock Shoppe in Orrington to make the final decision on which city would become the Official Host City for the EMSBD for the next three years. An extensive evaluation process was followed over the last 6 months which included detailed checklists, budgetary considerations, meetings with various city officials, site selections, trial runs, demographic research and debate. Three cities were in the running, Brewer, Old Town and Bangor and all three cities had their own unique set of pros and cons. John Hannington, Vice President of the EMSBD said "this is one of the most important and difficult decisions that the board has been faced with in the last six years". David Vroom, Race Director and Selection Committee Chairman said "the goal of the Board is to partner with a Host City and together put on a quality event that benefits the youth of our community". Ultimately, the Board reviewed the findings of the Selection Committee and made their selection to the best of their ability and Bangor came out on top. The next step is to have the decision reviewed and ratified by the Bangor City Council which is expected to happen sometime next week. |
