2005 RACE DAY RULES

1.  2005 All-American Soap Box Derby Rules apply.

2.  Weight Limits:  Stock - 200 lbs. ; Super Stock - 230 lbs. ; Masters - 255 lbs. :  15 pound tail heavy differential will be used when weighing cars.  Maximum tail weight, taken at rear kingpin, with driver in race position:  Stock - 107.5 lbs. ; Super Stock - 122.5 lbs. ; Masters - 135 lbs.

3.  While weighing up for the heat, if you need to add weight, it must be added to the front of the car.  If you need to remove weight, it must be taken from the rear of the car.

4.  The race will be a two-phase double elimination race.  Lane swap and 4-wheel swap after the first phase.  Lower numbered cars will run the 1st phase in lane #1 and the 2nd phase in lane #2.   Those losing the first race will continue racing in the challenger’s bracket.  All racers will race at least 2 times (4 times down the hill).  Continually watch your heat sticker on the nose of your car, because even after losing two races, you may be in the run-off for a trophy.

5.  4-wheel progressive swap:  No wheel swap for the first phase.  All 4 wheels will be swapped prior to the second phase.  After the second phase do not swap wheels back.  You retain the other car’s starting set of wheels for the next round.  When you are done racing, you must not leave the area with someone else’s wheels.  See back for information about getting your wheels back.

6.   No loose articles are allowed in the car except for clothing that was weighed with the car.  No taping of helmets (except for masters) or clothing, and no use of elastics or other items intended on streamlining the clothing or helmets.  The wearing of EMSBD t-shirts as the outer layer is mandatory.  Footwear with a rubberized bottom must be worn.  Race officials can approve special footwear before race day.

7.  All cars are to remain with all four wheels touching the ground when in the pit area.  No saw horses or boxes can be used to elevate the car.  No spinning of the wheels when the cars are in the pits.  Each Racer will be given one Pit Pass for the adult assisting them.  This must be worn in the pit area, and it must be shown to retrieve the car or the wheels from the reclaim area.

8.  No lubrication or chemical cleaning of wheels and spindles during race day.  Any lubrication must be done before final inspection the day before the race.  During race day, a clean dry rag may be used to wipe clean the wheels only.  No wiping of the spindles is allowed.

9.  NO wheel washers will be used.  Wheel pins may be bent slightly to allow clearance of the plastic part of the wheel.  A Race Official will show you how to do this.

10.  No wiping of wheels once the car is loaded on the on-deck platform.  Wheels must be touching the alignment tape when staging in the ramp.

11.  No altering of cars after being impounded on Friday after the final inspection.  Any alteration of mechanical components relating to a safety concern will need approval of a race official before the alterations are made.

12.  You must be ready to race within 5 minutes of being called to the scale for your heat, or you may forfeit the race.  Any special needs to increase length of time, such as completing repairs will be approved by the race directors.

13.  No ducking.  Eyes must always be visible when racing.

14. Travel outside of your designated lane will not disqualify the driver unless the race officials feel the driver in the other lane was distracted.  Any driver striking the timing devices at the end of the track will lose the heat and their opponent will advance.

15.  You must maintain your driving position (determined and marked when doing the tail weight) while on the ramps and while racing.  There can be no shifting of your weight from the time you are loaded into the car until after crossing the finish line.

16.  For any reason the race needs to be halted prior to completion (i.e.  rain, darkness) race officials will decide the method of determining place winners at that time.

17.  Race will not be canceled due to rain until 11:00 a.m. of race day.

18.  Lane winner lights will be used and triggered by the timer.

19.  HAVE FUN!!!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT GETTING YOUR WHEELS BACK AFTER RACING:

At the final inspection, you will place a sticker containing your name and car number on each wheel.  You may not leave with anyone’s wheels but your own.  When you are done racing, your car will be placed in a secured reclaim area.  If you wish to leave, you must check with the official overseeing the reclaim area.  You must show a Pit Pass to retrieve the car or the wheels from the Reclaim Area.  Drivers can only leave with the original wheels with their own name on them.  If your wheels are still being raced, then you have two choices:  First, you may wait until the car running on your wheels enters the reclaim area and then the wheels may be switched.  Or, you may leave without any wheels.  At the end of the day, the labeled wheels will be collected from the reclaim area and stored at the Bangor Parks & Rec for 2 weeks.  After that time, any unclaimed wheels become the property of EMSBD.  You may safely leave your car and wheels in the reclaim area until after the Awards Ceremony.

We would like to see everyone stay as long as they can after they are finished racing to cheer on the other racers and to participate in the Awards Ceremony where Door Prizes will be drawn.
